“How did your date go?” Kira asked when she dropped by my office Monday afternoon. I had gotten in later than usual since my schedule was off after staying at Vincent’s.

“My date?” I scrunched up my nose, trying to remember what she was talking about.

“Yeah…” She returned the confused expression. “Didn’t you have a date with a guy on Friday night? Dinner at Element 47?”

Oh yeah. With everything that had happened yesterday, I’d completely forgotten the first half of my weekend.

“Sorry, it’s been a really eventful weekend.” I stacked a pile of manila folders together on the top corner of my desk for her to file.

She raised an eyebrow, her interest piqued. “What does that mean? Did your date turn into a weekend together?”

“What? No.” I sat up straighter. “Of course not.”

“Oh.” Her expression fell. “Then what happened?”

I told her all about my date with Dave and how it had failed miserably once I knew he wanted kids and he found out I was Vincent Lake’s ex-wife. Then I told her about messaging a couple of guys on Saturday—which I’d somehow completely forgotten about until then, too. And then I told her about the creepy doll on my doorstep and how I ended up going to the game on Sunday.

“How was the game?” she asked.

I lifted a shoulder. “It was fun. A little weird to be watching it in the luxury suite with Vincent’s family, but the game was exciting and gave me a few hours without thinking about everything else going on, so that was nice.”

“That’s good.”

“Yeah.” I tucked some hair behind my ear. “And then Vincent insisted I stay at his place that night instead of going home. So that was interesting, to say the least.”

“You slept at his apartment?” She pulled her head back, her dark eyebrows shooting up.

I nodded, still not sure how I really felt about the whole weekend.

“And did anything happen?”

Of course she would ask that.

“Probably not what you’re thinking,” I said before she could get any crazy ideas in her head. “But we did talk about a few things that needed talking about, and…we may have kissed.”

I said those last four words quickly, hoping she might not catch on to them.

But when her mouth dropped open, I knew she’d heard.

“You and Vincent kissed?” She quickly shut the door to my office, as if to keep anyone else from overhearing our conversation, then took the seat on the other side of my desk. She scooted as close as she could then leaned over my desk and whispered, “Tell me everything.”

I bit my lip as the memory of the kiss passed through my mind. Even though it hadn’t exactly ended well, I couldn’t deny that for those few moments when I’d been wrapped up in Vincent’s arms, I had felt amazing. Euphoric even.

Euphoric enough that I’d been tempted to take things further for a minute there.

“I’m dying here,” Kira said, interrupting my thoughts. “What the heck happened?”

“It was supposed to be our last kiss—you know, the one we would remember since I couldn’t remember the last one before it.
